I was hugely attracted to the individual approach to managing my career that BCG offered. Compared to the other consulting firms I was looking at, BCG really stood out as tailoring an experience to meet my individual skills and aspirations.

I’ve been given fantastic opportunities and the support of mentors and colleagues to pursue them, as well as wide exposure to different industries and business problems. I’ve done a secondment at Foxtel, an MBA at Harvard and a fellowship in Cape York working on indigenous issues.

I think women are looking for a career where they can develop their skills, work flexibly as their personal needs change and make a meaningful difference in the world. Many of my friends have had to trade off personal development for flexibility, or meaning for security.

I’m very lucky that my career can meet all these criteria. Maybe I can’t do it all at once, but I still feel it’s possible to do it all.

Alex earned a bachelor of arts (philosophy) and a bachelor of laws with honors from the University of Sydney. She also holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, where she graduated with distinction.

She joined BCG in 2002.

In order to reach my goal of being a successful entrepreneur, I knew I needed to develop a range of business skills and disciplines. So when the opportunity arose to join BCG after business school, I didn't hesitate. I hoped the variety of work and calibre of problems would help me develop my business skills, and I haven't been let down.

Since joining I've been able to work on issues such as international expansion, salesforce productivity and major organisational redesign. The work is always challenging but also lots of fun. Solving important and complex problems alongside some fantastically talented people is a great learning experience. It's also allowed me to make some great friends and fantastic business contacts, which I'm sure will prove to be equally as valuable as my newly developed skills.

Craig holds a Medical degree from the University of Otago and an MBA from the University of Cambridge.

Craig joined BCG's Sydney office in 2007 and works predominantly within Financial Services.

After playing international sport for 14 years, I needed a new challenge that would stimulate my mind as much as field hockey had stimulated my body.

BCG's track record of strategic insight and breakthrough thinking, coupled with its strong emphasis on training and teamwork was the perfect fit.

Training at BCG is a continuous process; mine started with regional entry training in Bangkok and has since included a wide range of targeted sessions.

Outside of traditional training, I have also received plenty of help and advice from others that has helped my transition from banking to consulting. BCG's training enables me to make a difference with clients and has also exponentially increased my career options

Simon holds a BA/BCom in Economics and Finance from the University of Auckland.

Simon represented New Zealand in field hockey from 1992 to 2005 (captain from 2000). After retiring as the country’s most capped player he was awarded a member of the New Zealand order of Merit for services to hockey.

He joined BCG’s Auckland office in 2007.
