At BCG I get to collaborate, rather than compete with my colleagues. It’s always challenging, and has enabled me to grow both professionally and personally.

A Personal Story

I first came to BCG as a summer consultant for a month while I was completing my MBA. Working as a summer consultant gave me the opportunity to use the business and practical knowledge I’d acquired in my MBA in the context of a real case experience. I was responsible for my own module from day one. The experience also helped me evaluate whether BCG would be a good ‘fit’ for my personality and skill set. I found that it was, so I returned to BCG as a full-time consultant the following year.

BCG has provided me with varied work that has helped me develop a broad range of skills. At BCG I get to collaborate, rather than compete with my colleagues. It’s always challenging, and has enabled me to grow both professionally and personally. It’s a nurturing environment where continued learning and collaboration are emphasised, while at the same time my personal time and individuality are respected.

A Personal Story
I was backpacking in Australia before setting up a printing business in Melbourne. Two years later I decided to do an MBA where I go the opportunity to do a summer internship at BCG. I gained some first hand experience of the variety of work and type of individuals at BCG and from day one I felt part of the team. It was a "no brainer" to join!  What I really like about BCG is that we deeply care about what we do, how we do it and who we work with. I get a real kick out of making change happen. Since my internship, I have had many opportunities to explore and combine professional and personal interests into a deeply fulfilling career: I have a pilots license and my main client is an airline; I have been leading BCG’s social impact work with The Cape York Institute, a leading indigenous organisation. Being able to impact business and society at this level is a true privilege and I hope everyone keeps searching until they find a career as rewarding as BCG has been for me.

After sampling the case work and meeting the people, I was convinced that BCG would be a great place for me to work full time!

A Personal Story

During my 12-week internship at BCG I completed two cases. The first one entailed helping an industrial products client overcome issues with their existing marketing strategy. Our task was to determine how to grow sales, which were stagnant or declining in some areas within Australia. My second case was a very broadly defined strategy project in the financial services industry. Our job was to inform the client about current and future market trends.

The best thing about completing an internship is that it enables you to “try before you buy”. BCG is an extremely welcoming company and by the end of 12 weeks I really felt at home. After sampling the case work and meeting the people, I was convinced that BCG would be a great place for me to work full time!

A Personal Story

After almost five years in investment banking, I decided to join BCG for a summer internship. My decision was based primarily on three factors.

First, I wanted an environment that was stimulating and had little in the way of short-term, repetitive work.

Second, I was looking for more client contact. Unlike investment banking, where you have relatively brief contact with clients, consulting gives you the opportunity to go deeper and engage with clients for extended periods—for example, by helping a client determine its next strategic move and then participating in the implementation.

Third, I wanted greater opportunity to chart my own future. I had learned from BCGers I had met during the first year of my MBA program that there was no scripted path to success at BCG; rather, each individual forged his or her own way. I liked the idea that I could mold my personal growth on the basis of an almost infinite number of choices among industries, business topics, and geographies.

The internship was everything I had hoped for, as I was assigned to two projects. The first was a pure strategy case: six weeks of intense work designed to reshape an asset-management firm’s strategy. I worked on a team with two consultants under the leadership of a partner and a principal. From day one, I was in charge of my own module, interviewing BCG experts, analyzing data, and designing frameworks to detail my findings. My second case, in which I worked as a member of a postmerger integration team, was quite different in its goals. In four weeks, I had to understand complex operational issues, fine-tune recommendations, and travel to Asia to get my client’s buy-in.

All told, it was an extremely exciting summer, and I would recommend the experience highly. Every day was certainly different!
