Oaktree Foundation Opportunity
The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) sponsors an innovative new Fellowship for a young woman to take a significant leadership role in a non-profit sector.
BCG in early 2011, announced a partnership with the Oaktree Foundation, Australia’s first and largest entirely youth-run international aid and development organisation. As part of its commitment to women in leadership, BCG is supporting a young woman (under 26) to take up a leadership role as either Oaktree’s Chief Financial Officer or its Chief Business Development Officer.
The successful applicant for one of these roles will receive a BCG Fellowship, which includes:
$10,000 per annum scholarship to cover living expenses
Four week summer internship with BCG
Mentoring by a senior BCG female consultant
Ongoing opportunities to attend BCG in-house events
Applications for the BCG-Oaktree Fellowship are currently closed.
Prospective applicants interested in applying for this unique opportunity should check our website from November 2011.
BCG Oaktree 2011 Fellow – Caroline English
My name is Caroline English. I am 21 years old and a recent Monash University graduate, having studied Commerce over the last 3 years. I am the youngest of 4 children and grew up in Melbourne, attending school at Genazzano FCJ College in Kew.
From 2009-2011 I volunteered for UN Youth Victoria as Treasurer then Vice-President. That experience, coupled with the skills I gained from my degree, led me to the opportunity with BCG and the Oaktree Foundation. Problem solving, teamwork and leadership are the three elements of all my experiences that I have found most challenging and enjoyable. My role as the CFO at the Oaktree Foundation and as the BCG Oaktree Fellow will, I hope, give me the chance to grow and learn in those capacities. I am also highly motivated by the chance to make a positive impact on the world through the development outcomes that the Oaktree Foundation achieves.
I love to travel and have had some wonderful opportunities to combine travel and volunteering over the last few years. In 2008-9 I spent 5 months in China teaching English at a high school in Qingdao. In 2010 I volunteered at an orphanage in northern Thailand and in 2011 I was lucky enough to attend the Harvard National Model United Nations in Boston as part of the Australian delegation. I also love singing and I take lessons every week.
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to learn and grow in my role at the Oaktree Foundation with the support and learning opportunities offered by BCG. This Fellowship is a rare and incredible opportunity for a young woman such as myself and I feel privileged to be the recipient of it. I look forward to the journey I am about to embark upon and the possibilities it will uncover for me that I would never have dreamt of before.
