Hi everyone. I’ve just returned as a Consultant in the Auckland office after 4 years as CEO of Oxfam New Zealand. It was a real privilege to lead such a worthy organisation. Whilst I learnt a lot about international affairs and social justice I also saw how some of the basic tenets of good business management can make a real difference to a small charity.
For those of you who don’t know me I started at BCG as an Associate in Sydney in 1997 after a short stint as a civil engineer. Having lived across “the ditch” for more than 5 years now I consider myself amongst the extremely rare Australian Kiwi species. Outside of work I love to play tennis and to hike above the treeline. Anyone interested in serious tramping please get in touch!
A Day In The Life Of Terri-Ann...
6:45am Wake up and chat with my husband. Today I’m lucky and he makes breakfast while I’m in the shower.
7:30am Ask myself ‘should I walk or drive?’ Decide to drive and enjoy Brussels cobblestone squares and parks from the car window.
7:45am Arrive at office. Check over our project recommendations document that ‘Office Tiger’ worked on overnight. Make some modifications in preparation for a discussion with the Partner and Managing Director.
10:00am Spend some time ‘thinking’ about the next steps on the project.
11:00am Meet the Partner. Discuss (in French) our recommendations document and approach to the afternoon’s presentation to our client.
1:00pm Grab a baguette sandwich and eat in the office lunch room, chat with colleagues about summer vacation plans. My plans include a 6 day hike around the Mt Blanc Massif in the French Alps.
1:45pm Meet with one of my team members to review progress on a module. Switch back to English as neither of us is a native French speaker. Discuss her recommendations on how to reorganize a support service function at our client. Dial into a conference call with a the Partner in London who is an expert in this area to get his input.
3:45pm The Partner and I walk together to client office 200m away. Switch back to French. We present our draft recommendations to the HR General Manager. The CEO is our client on this case and the HR General Manager is our project coordinator.
6:00pm Catch up with the full team of 2 Associates and 2 Consultants to debrief on the meeting. Define together next steps of work to finalize our recommendations.
7:00pm Check emails and review for the plan for tomorrow. No need to work late work tonight.
8:00pm Head from home to the tennis club with my husband to meet some friends. Play on the red clay courts, then relax with a drink and dinner.
10:30pm Home to bed.
