What is BCG Looking for in Consultants?

Apart from those promoted from the Associate cohort, most of our Consultants arrive at BCG looking for a change in career. They have several years of business experience and have usually completed an MBA.

Due to their greater experience in the workplace, Consultants are expected to have a good understanding of business, strategy and competitive dynamics. As a result, each one is expected to take responsibility for an individual work module within a case, and they tend to work more closely with client teams.

After two successful years as a Consultant, you can expect to be promoted to Project Leader. This role involves leading teams on a day-to-day basis, with greater responsibility for work output and client management.

Every year we also host a number of Summer Consultants, who are typically in the middle of an MBA. A Summer Consultant has the chance to be part of a real case team and experience the world of a management consultant from the inside, before returning to business school to complete their MBA.
